In search of inspiration
Sheila Silver - a prominent New York-based composer - an uncommon woman; undoubtedly one of the most colorful figures of
the current American music scene. This year she was awarded the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship.
I became interested in her work when I first heard the unconventional song, The White Rooster: A Tale of Compassion,
written for a female vocal ensemble accompanied by a little known yet magical instrument: Tibetan singing bowls.
From then on I followed the composer's music and soon featured one of her compositions in my New York Chamber Musicians'
concert series, a fantastic piano trio for piano, cello and violin, To The Spirit Unconquered. This work makes a powerful impression on all.

The end of September and beginning of October is the opening of a new season of music, and we all know that
New York has some of the finest cultural offerings in the world.
Today's article undertakes the difficult task of bringing you a little closer to this fantastic upcoming season.
Since the large number of concerts can cause more than a trivial problem of choosing suitable music suggestions for
autumn and winter evenings, I decided to focus on some of the leading musical institutions. As a violinist, I was
obviously drawn to begin our journey through the offerings of concert halls such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center,
however, what drew my attention was a very strong Polish team at the gala opening season at the Metropolitan Opera,
which took place on September 23. The two lead male roles, including the title role in Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin,
featured Poles: Mariusz April and Peter Beczała.
